I’ve always had an appreciation for nature and trees. As a young boy, camping outside amongst the trees with their smells, colors and shapes, always brought me joy. Living close to the Rocky Mountains has always been a privilege.

I was first exposed to woodworking in high school shop class. I was drawn to the lathe and made, what I thought at the time, was a beautiful cup. I still have it and use it, flaws and all. There’s a picture on this page.

Fast forward a number of years and I found myself working in Japan. The woodworking in Japan, in my opinion, is some of the best in the world. There are competitions to see how many microns thin a shaving can be from hand planing a piece of wood. Japanese houses, furniture, and thousand-year-old temples, with their simplicity in design, attention to detail, functionality, joinery styles and emphasis on the wood’s natural beauty, really left an impression on me. I was driven to learn how to express what I was seeing and the ideas rattling around in my head.

After returning to Canada, I began to accumulate the knowledge, tools and experience to build things. We are lucky to have such beautiful trees and wood in Canada and the USA. Forget Mahogany - Maple, Cedar, Poplar, Birch, Pine, Spruce, Cherry, Douglas Fir, Ash and Walnut are where it’s at!

If people would like a custom, handmade piece of nature in their house to appreciate and like our style, I would love to work with them. We can make something special that will last.
